  • Charity worker – Available for unpaid workers at charitable organizations. This visa type is valid for up to 1 year.

 

  • International agreement – Available for employees of foreign governments or private servants in diplomatic households.

 

  • Religious worker – Applicable for individuals working for a religious institution for a period of up to 2 years.

 

  • Service Supplier – For employees of a foreign business or self-employed professionals providing services for a local company for a period of 6 or 12 months.

  • Secondment Worker – For employees of a foreign organization sent to the UK to work for a different company. To qualify for this visa, workers must hold a high-value contract.

Step 3: Apply for a Sponsor License

 

Under the UK’s new immigration system, it is no longer mandatory for companies to complete a Labor Market Test to prove that no UK citizens are available to fill the position.

  • Report any changes related to your business (e.g., becoming insolvent, moving to a new address, merging with another business, etc.). You must register these changes using the Sponsorship Management System.

 

Step 4: Apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)

 

Each of the workers you sponsor must hold a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) in order to apply for a visa.

A CoS is valid for 3 months. Within this timeframe, your prospective employee must use it to apply for a work visa.

You can request a CoS through the Online Sponsorship Management System (SMS) which you will gain access to upon approval of your sponsor license.

In the application, you must include detailed information regarding your workers’ duties and their expected salary.

In most cases, the competent authorities will approve your CoS application in as little as one working day.

The cost of a CoS for a worker hired under the worker license (except for International Sportsperson visa) is £199. On the other hand, the cost of a CoS for a worker hired under the temporary worker license is £21.

For the International Sportsperson visa, the fees are as follows: £199 for a visa valid for more than 12 months and £21 for a visa valid for 12 months or less.

Important note: Before applying for a CoS, some workers may need an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.

An ATAS certificate is issued to non-EU students who apply for their postgraduate education in certain sensitive subjects.

Step 5: Your Future Employee Applies for a UK Work Visa

 

After getting a CoS, your future employee can apply for a UK work visa.

The application can be submitted online through gov.uk – UK’s public sector information website.

However, applicants will need to have their fingerprints and photograph taken at the competent UK Visa Application Center.

This is a mandatory requirement in order to obtain a biometric residence permit.
